Having Children

Posted in Group:

Hello ladies,

My name is Desiree and a week ago I had my first laproscopy to remove my endometriosis. The doctor told me afterward that it was in my whole pelvic region and had somehow wrapped itself around my left ovary so much that the scar tissue began eating away my ovary. Thankfully, he told me he got most of it out, and that my ovary was fine, and as of right now I am still fertile. He did, however, suggest that if I wanted to have children, it would be wise to begin early, because my time may be limited with how my endometriosis is

I just need to know who was able to have children, and at what ages. I am scared to death that I won't be able to have kids one day. I have thought for a long time now that I wouldn't be able to have children, for whatever reason, but now that I have the reason I am even more terrified. I still have plans to finish school and get married first, and my boyfriend is in agreement with me, but we both want to know how possible it is for people with endometriosis to have children after the diagnosis, and what the chances are of it happening.

Like your doctor said, your window of oppurtunity to conceive now that you had the surgery is open. As to how your fertility will be affected by waiting is something you should definately talk to your doctor about, waiting several years can affect your ability to bear a child, however it doesn't seem like you are ready for children, so don't see this as your one and only shot to have a child. Discuss your options for down the road and see how you feel with the information. While you may feel stuck between two impossible situations, knowing all the information will make your decision both now and for the future more tolerable.

Wishing you the very best.

Desiree,
My cousin was told the same thing, that at the time of her surgery/diagnosis she was fertile, but within a couple years she would be completely unable to have children. However, it has been 8 years now, and she just had her son 3 months ago. It was a huge surprise, she didn't find out until she was 6 months pregnant, and she was not trying to get pregnant.
I just was diagnosed 5 months ago, and was told it's doubtful I will have children. But I am holding out hope because of my baby cousin who wasn't supposed to be conceived.
Hopefully I was able to give you a little hope. As long as you have all the right organs still, it is possible to get pregnant. It may be very difficult, but it is possible.
Love and hope,
Courtney
